The Tomahawk building is located in the Fashion district in Flatiron Park (intersection of Spring, Main, and 9th streets). It was constructed in 1914 Otherwise known as the Gans Brother's Building. Over the decades, The Tomahawk housed numerous financial institutions, then later manufacturing spaces for the garment industry.
In the late 1970's an ax like sculpture by Gary Lloyd was installed on the face of the building.
The Flatiron Develompment Group acquired the building to spearhead historical preservation and loft converson under the Adaptive Re-use Ordinance.
In 2002, the City of Los Angeles City Council and Cultural Heritage Commission named the Tomahawk Building a Historic-Cultural Monument.
